Chicks Don’t Dig Cheap Guys. Who Knew?

Guys. Stop being so cheap and maybe you’ll get invited back to her place.

Me: “Here’s your bill, sir.”
The Boyfriend: “Uh…ok…here you go. Keep the change.”
Me: (Looking inside and finding $70 on a $67.63 bill) “Was there something wrong with the service, sir?”
The Boyfriend: (Looking around nervously) “Uh…no…why?”
Me: “Because you only left me a 2 dollar tip.”
The Girlfriend: “You did what?! (Looking at me) I’m a waitress over at the Red Lobster down the street so I’m really sorry about him. Here you go. (Hands me a ten dollar bill to go with The Boyfriend’s tip).

(A few seconds later, they get up to leave).

The Boyfriend: “Listen…I’m…”
The Girlfriend: “Just drive me home.”

P.S. I’ve heard excuses regarding this story in terms of maybe the guy was broke and the girlfriend picked the restaurant, etc… Well, for starters, the guy ate the second-most expensive meal on the menu and the girl had the second-cheapest. The guy also ordered three drinks and the girl had water and an un-sweet tea. No excuses.

DIGG This!

I always make sure that the tip is at least 20%, even when I’m not paying. I always check to see what was left, and either tell the person to change it or secretly add more to it. I know as a waitress that it sucks to have this amazing table or be great to it and get shit for a tip. I also make it a habit to bring a pen with me and write a nice thank you note on the bill or a napkin… it makes me smile when I get notes from a table, and I’m sure it makes that other waiters/waitresses just that more grateful for the tip. :)

At least you picked the right person to call out on being a douchebag tipper.

haha that’s hilarious! You should instate a new policy. ‘If I don’t get none from you, I’ll make sure you don’t get none from her!’

Actually had something like this happen to me the other day, only I was the customer. Completely miscounted and instead of giving the guy $128 on a $103 tab I gave him $108. He didn’t say anything but gave me a look of death before we left. Something made me look in my wallet in the parking lot and I realized I had neglected the $20. I felt like a dick and went searching through the restaurant to find him. It was an honest mistake, I’m not sure how I would have reacted had he called me on it though.

    Love the site though.

I always make it a habit to say out loud how much tip I am giving the waiter/waitress for when I go out to eat at a restaurant. I like to tip fifty bucks but I guess I’m just old fashioned and rich

My friend Steve has a…unique way of tipping young women. He tells them that he has no more room in his wallet for the change and could they be kind enough to just hold on to it or give it a way or something.
I just quietly shake my head. I can’t tell if he’s trying to be clever or get laid with the whole “give it a way” comment.
    What a dufus.

Yeah, maybe he is a cheap SOB, or maybe there was a perfectly legitimite reason. Ive done my share of work in the food service industry, and i now getting stiffed on your tips sucks. However, you never ever call out a customer. You make a note of it to be sure. You enter it into your reservations computer so that when he makes a reservation again, the fact he is a shitty tipper will come up.

Maybe it wasnt his idea to go to the restaurant. He knows he cant afford it, but his girlfriend wont back down from wanting to go. Maybe he would have comeinm later when he had more money. The point is, you dont know. So you just potentially destroyed a relationship just to make a point.

I didn’t think it too pertinent to the audience, but the guy ordered the most expensive meal on the menu ($27+) whereas the girl ordered something much more moderately priced.

    Sorry.

  11. Bob Says:

Well upon hearing that bit of pertinent information, yeah the guy is a douche, well played!

  12. Bill Says:

You never ever call out a customer?! That’s the best part of this blog is the fact Ryan can and DOES call out his cheap ass customers. Did Bob miss the point of the site?

Though not needed, thanks for the background info. any way Ryan.

Man, that’s pretty bad.. I pretty ambivalent about it. I agree you don’t call a customer out, or embrass someone like that. You never know the circumstances. Could be struggling, could be broke, could be rich as heck.. Never know. At the same time, i understand, about working hard and not getting paid for it.

Nobody is addressing the title of this thread: “Chicks Don’t Dig Cheap Guys. Who Knew?”

    REALLY?

Guys dont like paying for expensive dinners unless they know they are getting some, or they are going to get some, or THEY chose the restaurant. The very worst thing a woman can do on a date to dinner is to order one of the most expensive things on the menu, then poke away at it and not eat what they ordered. Left to his own decisions, most guys will NOT opt for an expensive restaurant unless they are doing it to impress a woman (and get some!).

My guess is that the guy only had $70, and he thought that would be enough. The biatch “girlfriend” dumped him that night because he didnt tip the waiter enough? How about the fact that he gave up $70.00 to eat dinner ($35.00 each for a plate of food, even lobster, is not cheap), and the fact that he DID pay for her meal? No pootytang is worth THAT much inconsideration from any woman.

Me? I am very well off, but if that makes my date think she can just demand anything she wants, and assumes that I will let her live large on my wallet, then she wont have to ask me to “just drive her home”. She might be taken home in a taxi!

Pragmatic Guy, the GUY had the more expensive meal. The girl had the second-cheapest. Read the P.S.
